I traveled to India from 8th Aug to 16th Aug. This journey was the first experience since I could speak English. Before I could speak English, I had never had such experiences.
In this journey, I took only the round trip tickets to India. Before that, I had joined only the arranged tours that arranged by the travel agency. The difference is that the freedom I get. In the case of the arranged tour, they give us some free days. But it is not free. Example, they decide to stay at a hotel, time and so on. They give us some free days with some conditions. What is freedom? I think that we should decide all by ourselves. For the first time, I decided my own journey and schedule by myself. I traveled to India with good cheer.
I went to the International Tourist Bureau at New Delhi station. There were lots of Japanese there. It was like a Japanese shop. I fed up this scene because the officers and Japanese could not talk with each other smoothly. It took long time for them to get their tickets. While they were talking, the other foreigners had to wait. They could not afford to worry about the other people. In my opinion, they disturb the other people but they have never noticed it. In Varanasi, I entered a coffee shop. All the staff who are Nepalese work there. We became friends soon. They told me that many Japanese caome here but they talk with themselves only. They asked me why Japanese did not talk with the staff. I could not find the right answer easily and quickly. It was difficult for me to explain because I knew that the answer was not the language, English. I have ever seen or heard many Japanese who speak English but they have never talked with the other people. It seems that they are afraid of shame. In my opionion, they think that if they talk with the other people, they will be refused. In fact, we are Japanese and not native English speakers. Many Japanese trend to think that they had to speak like the native speakers. they never notice the most important thing is the communication. In my journey, I had never seen that any Japanese ever talk with the foreigners. Some Japanese asked the foreigners but never talked with them. But Some Japanese spoke to me, talked with me, asked me. Many Japanese talk with them only. It is true. Unconsiously, many Japanese make their own world and enter to their own world. Reality, they travel to India but they don’t go out of their own world and Nobody notices it.
For the first time, I could communicate with the foreignes. English always helped me. Even if I had some trouble, I could ask from someone. The more I talked with someone, The more my worry disappered. When I went to India, I always need the guidebook. But I did not need it day by day. Somebody always helped me. It was the great thing for me. The communication taught the truth to me. Many foregners mistake English. What is the right English? The answer is that the right English does not exist. Many Japanese believe that they must speak the right English. Evevyone except Japanese knows that the communication is the most important.
This Indian journey was the first time for me. Before I went to India, I was not interested in India. I thought that this journey was for leaving Sri Lanka first. I hoped that there would be no accidents in my journey and this journey would be safe. I was negative on this journey because I heard my english teacher about India. She told me that India had no good points. But I was interested in one thing that my english teachers said that They loved India. I could not understand why they love India. First day, I was negative. Second day, I saw the scene that there were lots of Japanese in the International Tourist Bureau at New Delhi station. It changed my mind. I asked myself why I learnt English, I wanted to be a global person and I wanted to change my mind. After that, my mind started to change. I always was positive about everything. I was full of vitality. I wanted to make my journey happy! I saw the handicapped, the poor and needy. They always struggle. I noticed that not I but also many Japanese have no spirits like them. I learnt from them. I determined to fight like them. I always heard this phrase of “A man can only die once”. I understood it for the first time. India taught the real meaning to me. Certainly, India has no good points. But India has just great spirit. So I fell in love with India.
I could not speak English about three months ago. Then I had dreamt of talking and traveling with the foreigners. When I went to India, my dream came true! India helped my dream come true. Now, I really feel that I can do what I want to do. This experience gave me much confidence and changed myself! Thanks India!
